Legal Practitioner and member of the Convention People’s Party, Opanin Kwame Jantuah has said that the army is not above the laws of the country so as any other individual.
Speaking in an interview on Tv Africa’s breakfast live morning show, Opanin Kwame Jantuah condemned the brutal act of the Ghana army upon invading Asahaiman on Tuesday morning on the 8th of march , 2023. In his submission, he revealed that is rather the job of the police to make arrest of culprit individuals in the country and not the work of the army.
He added that everybody in the country is a civilian first before the person’s profession follows and for that reason, nobody is above the laws of the state not even the army.
He indicated that, the president Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo has the mandate to call for calm at Ashaiman “who is the commander in chief of the Ghana Armed forces? Is it not the president? he holds the range of the Ghana Armed Forces, and the fact that he holds the range of the Ghana Armed Forces he can forced for these things to be stopped, because nobody has the right to brutalize anybody in this country” he said.
He clarified that, he is against the actions of the army for brutalizing the people of Ashaiman despite him not supporting the murder of the army personnel as well “We’ve got to get the evidence, what caused the soldier’s death, if the soldiers are telling us that they did special intelligence, what was that special intelligence? Was it to find out how their colleague died, and what resulted in his death, does it result in brutality? that is what I don’t understand.
He further divulged on the purpose of wearing the security attire . He said “ and look, the moment you wear a security attire, remember that you have not worn that attire just as a soldier, you have worn that attire to represent Ghana the country and an absolute respect should be given, that’s why I don’t agree to people who insult a president, you are not insulting the individual, you are insulting the office he holds that is where his power emanates from, the office and you should respect that office so every soldier, every police , every security in uniform should respect the uniform they wear”.
