It was revealed by the EC in a statement that Jean Mensa was already out of the country when the letter inviting the Chairman to update Parliament on the draft CI on voter registration arrived.

“The Commission, and its Chairwoman in particular, is aware of the significance of the institution of Parliament because she collaborated with it for 20 years previous to her nomination as EC Chairman. The Chairperson will not show any disrespect for the institution of Parliament since she upholds it.

“The invitation from Parliament was nevertheless issued a day ahead of the meeting, when the Chairperson was out of the country. She would have made the meeting her top priority and gone to the Honourable House if she had known about the request before leaving. Contrary to rumors that she had returned from her trip to Nigeria, the Chairwoman, Jean Mensa, has not yet arrived in Ghana, according to the EC.
